Nairobi Ponderings

It's fun here in Nairobi. Everythings is new to me. While I've done some travelling in Canada, from the waters of Esgenoopetitj to the hot springs of Clayoquot Sound and some travelling in the US, I'm finding Africa very inspiring.
Our new hotel room at the Parkside Hotel is cheaper than the 680Hotel and while this time we only have cold water (the 680 was straight hot) it's our comfortable new home. We're overlooking Jevanjee Gardens and it's the pick up point for many of the safari buses.
Everyone and their dogs have cell phones here in Nairobi. JD has considered buying a fake cell to give a fake ring whenever one of the travel company agents comes to sell us a safari. We're all booked I say now. There are always folks who are ready to book you onto a safari and they do much of their recruiting approaching people on the street...and we stand out a wee bit as potential clients.
Mmmm, to all my fellow Cafe Aromaites, today I had an iced Malindi Machiato (chai + coffee!) for my morning java, that was very delectable, a real culinary treat that I wondered how I would live without (my fellow Quadrites will understand my coffee chai addiction). Malindi is a spice mix named after the community on the coast. Our server explained this to me at the cafe the other day. There was only one part of the conversation that I really didn't catch and that was the Malindi chai connection with cannibalism that whenever I would repeat back cannible to him he said something else which I never quit caught.
Mega kisses
Tracy

love the blog! it's such a wonderful way to keep filled in on your adventures... we can almost pretend that we're in africa too...
we're visiting quadra for a couple of days... JD, we're staying at your place... thanks man! it's great to be here, but we miss you both like stink...
like stink!
we took Chilco for a long walk this morning with Sheldon. He had a blast. (sheldon, that is... we think chilco may have too...)
we've finally been released from smith inlet and we're off to explore civilization for a bit... we must admit, we're suffering from a bit of culture shock at the moment... we tried to make a left hand turn in port hardy and completely freaked out... you don't have to make many left hand turns up on Ye Olde Smith Inlet logging road...
keep having wonderful adventures, and please keep us all filled in... really, it's amazing...
we love ya...

neihow(chinese hello)!
wow what a delight it is to be interacting through the blooger!. truely fantastic.
oh good golly am i excited to be on my way to tumbling and frolicing on this swing through the country with you guys.
with 2 more sleepless nights, im about packed and ready to fly.
the taipei skies are turning grey and it's increasingly damp around here, with the sudden arrival of winter, so leaving couldnt come at a better time.
it's been an interesting year in china and i've become a slave to the 24hr 7-11's on every corner and i'll surely miss the culture steeped in ancient tradition...though, i won't be missing, most smells, the extreme lack of space and wearing a mask to avoid the invasive smog.
anyways
im ready to move on and where better a place than africa - to be greeted by you!
yippy
seeing you so so soon!

Hi Tracy,
Wow! I was sure I asked your mom and dad what you were up to these days and there was no mention of Nairobi! I love that your in Nairobi!
But what are you doing there? Do you have a specific project/mission or are you experiencing life in the fabulously Tracy way! Who is JD? Who are the others comming to meet you? You're there for 3 months?
Details girl, details.
I'm thrilled for you and so happy to get your blogs.
Love Beth
JD,
you have never been so cute than on this "matatu accident" photo. :)
You actually "sort of look" like that giraffe on the other photo! Don't you think?
4 more days before I fly to France...Not as exotic as nairobi, but I'll take it for now
Much love
Sophie
